Steve Theivagt thinks he might have been 17 years old when he gave 50 bucks to a farmer for a 1958 Ford that didn’t run. It was 1972, and Theivagt’s father, who went by Junior then, was running coupes on the weekends at Springfield Speedway at the corner of Dirksen Parkway and Clear Lake Avenue.
